Hi, I am Dr Chan Tat Hon.
Welcome to my personal website.
Some people call me 'Doc'
Some call me 'Teacher'
Some call me 'Chef'
Whilst others call me 'Coach'
I am an adventurer and in the 20 plus years since I graduated from medical school I've been on many interesting journeys, many of which I share in my blog here.
In this current season, Practising, Teaching, Coaching, 'Preaching' Lifestyle as Medicine is my passion. My calling and purpose is to help people unlock the power of lifestyle for a longer healthier life and to help people jumpstart a journey of healthy lifestyle to 'disease-proof' themselves and most of all their loved ones.
I am a medical doctor and I run a Lifestyle Medicine Clinic where I prescribe lifestyle modifications as medicine, coaching patients through dietary modifications & exercise programmes to manage lifestyle related diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cholesterol disorders and body weight issues.
Some years back, I accidentally started a restaurant and was even the full-time chef there for a season. Although nd am also the executive chef of a restaurant I founded with a mission to introduce more people to healthy eating
I also spend time conducting classes and programmmes to teach participants the power of lifestyle including food on health..
I speak and shout about the power of lifestyle and food to heal or destroy our bodies at every opportunity - at seminars, conferences, churches, companies, organisations and events.
I Eat to Live and Live to Eat.
for if one only Eat to Live,
there would be so much less JOY in life,
However if one only LIVE to Eat,
there would be so much less life to enjoy.
Many of the chronic diseases that are robbing people of years in their lives and life in their years have roots in unhealthy lifestyle.
My purpose in life is to wake people up and get them stop robbing themselves by making the effort to learn and then live a lifestyle that will enable them to live to the fullness of life that God has bless them with.
My wife, she has long given up trying to put a 'label' on what I do, she strongly believes that I am an undiagnosed & untreated ADHD who cannot sit still and is always 'cooking up' something.
Although my wife may be right to say I am always restless and always cooking up some new adventures, I have been rather focused in my 'restlessness'. I am focused on and crazy about just one thing - the power of Lifestyle as medicine, about how we eat, move, rest and love impact our years in life and life in those years.
Lifestyle is Medicine
Every opportunity I get, I want to 'preach', teach and help people to harness the tremendous power of lifestyle to extend years in their lives and enhance the life in their years, starting with their diet.
Eat To Live.
First and foremost, I am a practising medical doctor with a passion for educating, encouraging and enabling people to maintain and regain health through practising informed mindful lifestyle, especially what they put into their bodies at least 3 times a day - FOOD. So being a doctor with a medical practice focusing on helping my patients to use dietary modifications to tackle serious chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases, metabolic syndrome and other diet related diseases, you must expect that I am constantly expounding that we should Eat to Live.
Live to Eat.
However I am also a Chef, I am the executive chef in a restaurant I founded a couple of years ago. Here I can live out my passion by cooking into reality what I know about food & health. Here, my goal is to create healthy and yet tasty food that is not just good for our bodies but which is also good for our souls. Because I know, being a foodie myself, that for almost all Singaporeans living in food paradise Singapore, they Live to Eat.
Eating Happy. Choosing Healthy
I am also a teacher, a lecturer & food coach in The Food School that I founded to bring people back to school to learn about food and health. At The Food School, I conduct regular scheduled classes on the science behind common chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart diseases and metabolic syndrome as well as the science behind the role of food in the causation of and management of these diseases. I sometimes tell people that I am a 'tuition teacher', just that my students are adults not kids, the subjects I teach are not for preparation for school or work, but for daily application in life and lastly that I am not helping my students to achieve good exam scores but to maintain and regain health through being able to make better informed choices of what they eat on a daily basis. So yeah, you can call me a tuition teacher, a coach, I teach people food and health and I coach them on how to regain health through what they eat, and how to sustain it as lifestyle by learning how to eat happy and choose healthy at the same time.
Sharing the Passion, fulfilling my Mission.
I am always delighted whenever I am invited by companies, organisations, churches or any other groups to speak about lifestyle, food and health. Because waking people up to the fact that food play a very big role in many of the increasingly prevalent and serious chronic diseases of today and encouraging people that they can maintain and regain their health by choosing wisely at every single mealtime is not just my passion, it is my mission.
